Guide to Assistive Technology Service Providers

Assistive technology has made a significant difference in the lives of millions of people with disabilities. Among the first and most important steps in obtaining AT are: 1) To clarify the consumer's needs, abilities, and preferences for AT and 2) To identify suitable AT options.

This needs evaluation and assessment often requires the specialized expertise of an AT provider. These providers will assist consumers in selecting the AT that best meets their needs. Also, most third-party funders require an evaluation prior to purchasing technology for consumers. To get the very best information from the evaluation process, it is essential that the consumer and caregivers participate collaboratively with qualified professionals in the process of describing functional limitations and identifying AT options that offer greater independence, productivity, and personal satisfaction.

The Guide to AT Service Providers is designed to help locate professionals with the requisite training and expertise. DATI has characterized the listed AT providers as either:

Agencies - Organizations providing some type of AT-related service. These provider descriptions will include contact information, an indication of the populations with which the organization has particular expertise, details about the types of third-party billing accepted, and a listing of their particular AT-related services.

Individual Providers - Individuals with AT-related expertise. These descriptions will include contact information, details about the individual’s AT-related training and experience, and a listing of his/her particular AT-related services.
